Who we are
The gallery is run by the William Brooke Benevolent Fund, a registered charity whose charitable objectives include the regeneration of the site for educational and creative purposes. The Trustees are responsible for the governance of the charity and its performance in light of its vision and values.
Vision and values …
In 1996, the charity installed two semi-sprung dance floors to establish a Dance School space. The Huddersfield School of Theatre Dance has been based in the dance studio for over ten years and is a flourishing with over 80 students of all ages. The gallery was opened in the year 2000 and for five years successfully curated over twenty art exhibitions, featuring established artists with a reputation for distinctive and high quality work. In 2005 the Trustees decided that in order to meet the considerable costs associated with running an arts centre, the creative spaces should be available for hire in order for the organisation to become more financially sustainable.
The Trustees aim to run the organisation on a foundation of Christian values, whilst at the same time being a space for visitors and clients of all/no faiths. The organisation upholds a commitment to Equal Opportunities and Access, but reserves the right not to host certain events or display work which could be considered to be contrary to its values.
The business park with offices to let …
Since the closure of textile production in the 1980’s, the vision for the mill site has been to fully regenerate the buildings into a business park in keeping with the conservation area status. It is now home to an array of small-medium sized businesses and charities.
