Mark Brooke & Friends Exhibition
The gallery is currently showing a selection of paintings by the artist Mark Brooke and includes works by his good friends Eric Taylor, Trevor Bell, and Kate Rose.
Mark Brooke's paintings are prayers. The references for which are spontaneously derived from the sublime Created world, more often than not the North Yorkshire coast, where sky soars over sea and rock and men make their mark.
Eric Taylor, as Head of the Leeds College of Art was, such an inspiration to so many. He had a cottage in Staithes and Mark would go and visit him and his talented wife Freda, for painting lessons. We are showing some of his wonderful portraits of Staithes characters.
Kate Rose trained at the Royal College of Art and is from the “old school” in a more profound way, taking as she does her main references from Giotto and Fra Angelico.
Trevor Bell showed in our first exhibition. We are showing two of his most powerful works. Michael Finn showed in our Cornwall show and we have a large abstract on show, which he very kindly donated to the Collection before he died. The Exhibition also has works by Rose Hilton and Richard Kenton Webb.
The North Light Gallery is a pioneering creative space and remains one of the most exciting venues in the North of England.
Open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays from 11.00am - 3.30pm. Free admission.
